Bechtel, a global leader in engineering and construction, continues to strengthen its longstanding partnership with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) by fostering inclusivity and supporting women in STEM. At this year’s SWE annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, the company showcased its commitment through contributions, leadership recognition, and inspiring keynote addresses.
Major Contribution to SWENext Clubs
The Bechtel Group Foundation announced a $150,000 donation to support SWENext Clubs, with a particular focus on expanding opportunities for young women at Houston’s Young Women’s College Preparatory Academy (YWCPA) and Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA). This initiative aligns with Bechtel’s broader goals of inspiring STEM interest among students and advancing career development in the communities it serves.
Inspiring Leadership and Advocacy
During the three-day forum, Catherine Hunt Ryan, President of Bechtel’s Manufacturing & Technology business, delivered a compelling keynote address emphasizing the growing demand for women in STEM fields and the transformative role they can play in the construction industry.
Key Highlights from Hunt Ryan’s Address:
- Empowering Change:
“The structures of tomorrow are going to tell the story that women were here. The choice to become an engineer starts with a ‘why’—a purpose to make a difference in the world.” - Opportunities in a Global Construction Boom:
“The world is experiencing an unprecedented construction boom. Over the next 40 years, the equivalent of a New York City will be built every month, creating a demand for diverse talent and unparalleled career opportunities for women in STEM.”
