$225M Affordable Housing Project in Bronx Opens

BRONX, NEW YORK, April 2026 — Construction has begun on River Avenue Apartments II, a $225 million affordable housing project in the West Concourse neighborhood of New York City. The development aims to expand access to affordable housing while addressing the needs of vulnerable populations.

The project will deliver 292 rental units, with housing options ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments. Importantly, 173 units will be set aside as supportive housing for residents such as veterans with disabilities, individuals with mental illness, and people who have experienced homelessness.

Affordable Housing Focus

The development targets households earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI). As a result, it aims to provide stable housing for both individuals and families who face affordability challenges in the city.

In addition, residents in supportive units will receive on-site services. These include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Group activities
  • Medication management support
  • Employment referrals
  • Connections to local healthcare providers

State-Led Initiative

New York Governor Kathy Hochul said the project reflects a broader effort to address the housing crisis.

She noted that collaboration between the state, city, and private partners is helping create affordable homes while strengthening communities. She also emphasized access to transportation, healthcare, and modern amenities as key priorities.

Part of a Larger Housing Plan

River Avenue Apartments II forms part of a wider initiative led by New York State Homes and Community Renewal. Under this program, more than 10,000 affordable homes have already been created or preserved in the Bronx.

Furthermore, the project contributes to a $25 billion, five-year housing plan. This plan aims to build or maintain 100,000 affordable homes across New York State.

Development Team

The project is being developed by Community Access and Blue Sky Bronx. Both organizations focus on delivering housing solutions that integrate affordability with supportive services.

What’s Next

Construction is now underway, with work progressing on residential units and service facilities. Once completed, the development will provide long-term housing stability and support services to hundreds of residents.
