ACCIONA Energía has successfully completed the installation of wind turbines for the Forty Mile Wind project in Bow Island, Alberta, Canada, marking a key milestone in the project’s development. The company has connected 14 out of 49 turbines to the grid, providing 80MW of clean electricity to Alberta.
The project consists of 49 Nordex wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5.7MW, and a total installed capacity of 280MW. This makes it one of Canada’s ten largest wind farms and ACCIONA Energía’s largest installation in North America to date. Upon full energization, the wind farm will be able to power more than 85,000 homes.
Despite facing temperatures as low as -20˚F/-29˚C, more than 250 workers worked around the clock in two shifts to complete the installation safely. Specialized safety protocols, including a winter work plan, were critical to achieving this milestone.
Electrical commissioning is still ongoing, and the wind farm is scheduled to be fully operational in spring 2025.
