AECOM Appointed Ecosystem Delivery Partner for Southern Renewals Enterprise

AECOM (NYSE: ACM), a global leader in infrastructure design and engineering, has been selected as an Ecosystem Delivery Partner by VolkerRail for the Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE), a major UK rail infrastructure programme led by Network Rail.

Under this role, AECOM will provide multidisciplinary design services that include topographical surveys, track and electrical track engineering (ETE) design, and engineering management. These efforts support VolkerRail, which is the designated track delivery partner for the SRE.

“This partnership enables us to contribute to essential enhancements that will directly benefit millions of daily commuters,” said Mark Southwell, CEO of AECOM’s Global Transportation business. “Our deep experience in rail design and delivery reinforces our commitment to the UK’s railway modernization.”

The SRE model, launched by Network Rail in April 2024, covers a £9 billion renewals portfolio from 2024 to 2034. It aligns with the Institution of Civil Engineers’ Project 13 principles, emphasizing collaboration, long-term value, and improved customer outcomes.

AECOM’s appointment strengthens its long-standing partnership with VolkerRail and leverages its expertise from previous major UK rail renewals. Richard Whitehead, CEO of AECOM’s Europe & India Region, highlighted the team’s pride in delivering safe and efficient track outcomes: “This programme reinforces our role in ensuring rail reliability for both freight and passengers.”

The Southern Region of Network Rail encompasses approximately 3,300 miles of track, 544 stations, and serves critical transport corridors, including routes to major ports, airports, and European connections via the Channel.
