AECOM Hunt-Turner JV and Independence Construction Selected for Cleveland Browns’ New Huntington Bank Field

The Haslam Sports Group (HSG) and the Cleveland Browns have announced the selection of AECOM Hunt, Turner Construction Company, and Independence Construction as construction managers for the new Huntington Bank Field, Ohio’s first enclosed stadium. This transformative project will break ground in early 2026, marking a new era for sports, entertainment, and economic growth in Northeast Ohio.

Designed by leading global sports architecture firm HKS, the revolutionary 67,500-seat “Super Theater” will deliver an unmatched fan experience while doubling as a year-round venue for major sporting and entertainment events, including NCAA Final Fours, international soccer matches, and concerts hosting up to 75,000 attendees.

Key Features of Huntington Bank Field

  • Closest seats in the NFL – A new bowl design puts fans closer to the action than ever before.
  • Translucent roof – Inspired by Cleveland’s iconic atriums, it creates an outdoor-like atmosphere indoors.
  • Flexible “Super Theater” concept – Capacity of up to 75,000 for multi-sport and entertainment events.
  • Innovative roofing system – First long-span roof without a truss, delivering improved sightlines.
  • Economic catalyst – Generating 6,000+ construction jobs and thousands of permanent positions to strengthen Cleveland’s economy.

“Partnering with respected and accomplished construction managers such as AECOM Hunt and Turner will help us create a world-class stadium and entertainment district that benefits the entire Northeast Ohio region,” said David Jenkins, President, Haslam Sports Group.

The new stadium will anchor Northeast Ohio’s largest economic development initiative to date, accompanied by a mixed-use entertainment district led by Lincoln Property Company. This ambitious development will secure the Browns’ future in Cleveland for generations to come.

Community Partnerships and Local Impact

AECOM Hunt and Turner Construction bring more than five decades of combined NFL stadium expertise, with a portfolio that includes SoFi Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and the Buffalo Bills’ new home. Their collaboration with Independence Construction, Independence Excavating, and the DiGeronimo Companies underscores a strong commitment to local engagement and workforce participation.

“The New Huntington Bank Field represents a new era for Northeast Ohio – and for reimagining what a fan experience can be,” said Jason Kopp, COO, Central Region, AECOM Hunt.

“This project is deeply personal for us, with more than a century of history in Northeast Ohio. Together with AECOM Hunt, we’re ready to create a transformative stadium that will serve Cleveland and Browns fans for generations,” added Jason Jones, Senior Vice President, Turner Construction Company.

Enabling work began on October 1, 2025, with a formal groundbreaking scheduled for early 2026. Huntington Bank Field and Phase 1 of the adjacent mixed-use development are expected to open in 2029, establishing a world-class sports and entertainment destination for Cleveland and the broader region.
