AECOM Partners with NANO Nuclear to Advance Microreactor Deployment at UIUC

AECOM (NYSE: ACM), a global leader in infrastructure solutions, announced its selection by NANO Nuclear Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: NNE) to provide engineering, environmental, and regulatory services supporting the construction permit application for the KRONOS MMR™ microreactor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

The KRONOS MMR™, a next-generation microreactor, is designed to deliver clean, resilient energy while addressing climate change and energy security challenges. AECOM will leverage its multidisciplinary expertise in engineering, environmental compliance, and nuclear regulatory processes to support this pioneering initiative.

Initial project activities include technical feasibility studies, environmental assessments, permitting and licensing support, and coordination with regulatory agencies. The UIUC deployment is expected to serve as a national demonstration project for microreactors, offering scalable applications across academic, commercial, and defense sectors.

Frank Sweet, Chief Executive of AECOM’s Global Environment business, emphasized the company’s role in advancing nuclear innovation: “This collaboration underscores AECOM’s ability to support innovative energy solutions that address both climate and energy security challenges. We are proud to support this first-of-its-kind deployment.”

Sam Donelson, Chief Executive of AECOM’s U.S. East and Latin America region, highlighted the project’s significance: “Our work at UIUC reflects our commitment to delivering safe, sustainable, and scalable nuclear energy solutions aligned with a low-carbon future.”

AECOM’s involvement builds on its decades of experience in advanced reactor technologies, decommissioning programs, and environmental remediation. With integrated capabilities spanning engineering, environmental planning, and regulatory compliance, AECOM positions itself as a key partner in the global clean energy transition.
