AECOM, a leading global infrastructure consulting firm, has been appointed by Hong Kong-Dongguan Sea-Air Intermodal Transshipment Logistics Park Management (Dongguan) Limited — a subsidiary of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) — to deliver the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park. This major project aims to create a direct logistics connection between Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and Dongguan, a key manufacturing hub in Mainland China. The initiative is expected to set new standards in logistics infrastructure and boost economic growth across the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
As the lead consultant for Phase 1, AECOM will oversee design, contracts, and construction management of key infrastructure. This includes:
- An air cargo terminal complex
- Barge terminal
- Freight forwarder warehouses
- Highly automated logistics facilities
The project integrates advanced technologies such as intelligent guided vehicles (IGV) and customized containers, creating a highly efficient logistics ecosystem.
Once operational, the park will become the world’s first sea-air intermodal transshipment hub. Cargo will be screened and palletized in Dongguan to meet Hong Kong’s air cargo security standards. Special vessels will transport the cargo directly to HKIA’s airside area for onward international shipment. The facility is expected to handle up to one million tons of cargo annually, strengthening HKIA’s position as a leading global logistics hub.
AECOM’s regional leadership highlighted the importance of innovation, sustainability, and cross-border collaboration. With past successful projects such as the Cainiao Smart Gateway at HKIA and the Kwai Chung Cold Storage Logistics Centre, AECOM continues to position itself as a key player in shaping the future of logistics in the Greater Bay Area.
