AECOM to Support Transformed Mobility Across Austin, Texas by Delivering the City’s First Light Rail System

AECOM (NYSE: ACM), a global leader in infrastructure, has been selected as the delivery partner for the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) to support the transformative Phase 1 of Austin’s first light rail transit system. AECOM’s role includes program management oversight, environmental services, design management, rail activation, and ensuring operational readiness. Phase 1 of this significant project will introduce an approximately 10-mile light rail system with 15 stations, improving regional connectivity and mobility for Austin’s communities.

Lara Poloni, president of AECOM, expressed pride in the partnership, saying, “This critical project will transform how Austinites navigate their city, stimulate economic growth, protect the environment, and promote a sustainable future for generations to come.” She also highlighted that cities nationwide, including Austin, are making unprecedented investments in rail infrastructure.

As the delivery partner, AECOM will lead a robust technical team, collaborating with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firms to provide opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged individuals in the project’s development.

Drew Jeter, CEO of AECOM’s Program Management global business line, noted, “Austin Light Rail holds immense promise in transforming local transit connectivity, and our expertise in large-scale transit programs will help meet the growing demand for reliable and accessible transportation for the city.”

The Austin Light Rail is a key component of the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan (ASMP), which aims to enhance the accessibility, reliability, and connectivity of the city’s transportation network. The system will connect major destinations such as Lady Bird Lake, downtown Austin, and the University of Texas at Austin, with future expansions planned toward the airport and major hubs to the north.

Greg Canally, Executive Director of ATP, expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “AECOM’s selection reflects our shared values and collaborative spirit.” This landmark project will be a cornerstone of Austin’s transportation infrastructure, supporting the city’s growing population.
