Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, has announced an agreement to sell Omnicom, its specialist rail measurement hardware and intelligent software business, to Hitachi Rail, a global leader in transportation solutions.

This acquisition aligns with Omnicom’s growth strategy, enabling the company to expand beyond the UK and into the US and European markets. Under Hitachi Rail’s ownership, Omnicom will leverage its advanced technology and expertise to enhance rail infrastructure and monitoring capabilities globally.

Over the past decade, Omnicom has grown its capabilities through both acquisitions and organic development. Its team of over 100 experts has developed AI-enabled technology, combined with robust hardware and software, to monitor and manage rail infrastructure. This technology, currently used by customers such as Network Rail and London Underground, ensures operational stability and predictive maintenance, helping prevent railway asset failures.
