BAM and Ferrovial JV Awarded Three Contracts for High-Speed Rail Project HS2

BAM, in partnership with Ferrovial, has been awarded three key contracts for the HS2 (High-Speed 2) railway project in the UK. The track systems contracts, part of a broader £3 billion rail systems package announced by HS2 Ltd., will see the Ferrovial BAM Joint Venture (JV) design and build critical track infrastructure for the high-speed route between Old Oak Common and Birmingham Curzon Street station.

The project involves the design and installation of approximately 280 miles of track, capable of supporting speeds up to 225 mph (360 km/h). This covers 140 miles of the high-speed route and includes overseeing logistics, testing, and commissioning phases. The contract builds on the long-standing partnership between BAM and Ferrovial, which has successfully delivered several significant infrastructure projects over the last 14 years, reinforcing BAM’s strong order book in the UK and Ireland.

John Wilkinson, COO of BAM UK and Ireland, commented: “We’re proud to continue our work on one of the UK’s most significant infrastructure projects alongside our partner Ferrovial. This next phase moves us closer to providing reliable, long-distance rail services to more people across the UK, supporting growth and job creation.”

The contract is part of a broader £3 billion investment by HS2 Ltd., which also includes awards for systems such as Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS), Operational Telecommunications, Security Systems, and Signalling and Traffic Management. The project is expected to create tens of thousands of jobs and drive the continued development of UK high-speed rail.

The Ferrovial BAM Joint Venture previously collaborated on Crossrail and is also working on the Silvertown Tunnel and various HS2 packages. The JV will continue its work under a collaborative Rail Systems Alliance, ensuring efficient integration of resources, design, and logistics to meet the project’s ambitious goals for cost and schedule.

Once the statutory 10-day standstill period ends, the contracts will be signed, marking a significant step forward for HS2 and the UK’s rail infrastructure.
