Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, construction, and project management, has been selected by Doral Renewables to design and build the Cold Creek Solar+Storage project in Schleicher and Tom Green counties, Texas.
The facility will generate approximately 430 megawatts (MW) of clean energy using over 850,000 solar modules and will feature a 340 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy storage system. The system will capture and store surplus solar energy produced during the day and deliver it to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) grid during peak demand hours.
“The Cold Creek project highlights the power of an all-of-the-above energy strategy,” said Scott Austin, Bechtel General Manager of Renewables & Clean Power. “By combining 430 MW of solar generation with 340 MWh of storage, Cold Creek will make the Texas grid stronger and more reliable for years to come. We’re proud to support Doral Renewables in delivering reliable, homegrown power to Texas.”
“This project marks a major milestone for our company’s growth,” added Jason Van Deusen, Doral Renewables Vice President of Project Management. “Our continued partnership with Bechtel is built on collaboration, transparency, and shared values of community engagement, safety, and environmental stewardship. Together, we are building a stronger, more resilient energy future for America.”
Project Highlights:
- Capacity: 430 MW solar generation and 340 MWh battery storage
- Modules: Over 850,000 solar panels across Schleicher and Tom Green counties
- Employment: More than 500 jobs at peak construction, supporting local training and economic growth
- Completion: Commercial operations expected to begin in 2028
- Delivery Model: Bechtel will provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services
- Technology: Digital delivery using Bechtel’s advanced interactive hub for real-time field data and project tracking
The Cold Creek project marks Bechtel’s second collaboration with Doral Renewables and its fifth utility-scale solar facility in Texas. It adds to Bechtel’s expanding U.S. renewables portfolio, which includes multiple solar, wind, and battery storage projects under development.
Across the United States, Bechtel’s digital delivery platform enables 100% integrated project execution—combining data visualization, automation, and field intelligence to accelerate construction, improve quality, and strengthen sustainability outcomes.
