Cemex MSCI ESG Rating Upgrade to AAA Achieved

Cemex has received an upgrade to the highest possible ESG rating of AAA from MSCI Inc., reflecting the company’s strengthened approach to sustainability, risk management, and long-term value creation.

The global building materials company announced that its rating has been raised from A to AAA in the latest MSCI ESG Ratings assessment, placing Cemex among the top sustainability performers in the global construction materials sector.

Recognition for sustainability risk management

The MSCI Inc. ESG Ratings evaluate how companies manage financially relevant sustainability risks and opportunities within their industries.

With the new AAA rating, Cemex joins a select group of companies recognized for leading environmental, social, and governance practices. Only 15 companies in the global building materials industry currently hold the AAA rating.

The assessment considers multiple sustainability-related factors including:

  • Climate and decarbonization strategies
  • Resource efficiency
  • Governance practices
  • Operational resilience

Focus on decarbonization and long-term value

According to Jaime Muguiro, CEO of Cemex, sustainability continues to be a core part of the company’s long-term strategy.

The company is advancing initiatives aimed at reducing carbon emissions, improving operational efficiency, and aligning investments with sustainable growth objectives. These efforts are also designed to meet evolving customer expectations and regulatory frameworks in global construction markets.

ESG ratings influence investment decisions

The MSCI Inc. ESG Ratings are widely used by institutional investors to evaluate companies based on risk exposure, resilience, and long-term performance potential.

Investors often rely on these assessments for:

  • Portfolio construction
  • Risk management analysis
  • Corporate engagement decisions

The upgrade highlights Cemex’ progress in strengthening transparency and embedding sustainability into core business operations.

Driving sustainable construction solutions

Headquartered in Monterrey, Mexico, Cemex operates globally, supplying cement, ready-mix concrete, aggregates, and urban development solutions.

The company is pursuing a long-term vision of carbon neutrality, supported by innovation, research and development, and circular economy initiatives that increase the use of alternative fuels and recycled materials across its operations.
