Doosan Bobcat Enters Battery Pack Business, Accelerates Vertical Integration of Core Components

Doosan Bobcat has announced its strategic entry into the battery pack business, reinforcing its commitment to electrification and vertical integration of core technologies in compact construction equipment.

On March 19, Doosan Bobcat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with LG Energy Solution to jointly develop standardized lithium-ion battery pack solutions tailored for compact construction equipment. Under the agreement, LG Energy Solution will supply battery cells or modules, while Doosan Bobcat will integrate them with its own battery management systems to produce fully packaged battery packs optimized for key markets including North America.

“We are pleased to develop battery packs for compact construction equipment on the back of excellent quality and stability of LG Energy Solution’s cells,” said Hyunchul (Charlie) Park, CSO and Executive Vice President of Doosan Bobcat. “This collaboration will allow us to standardize battery solutions and expand into key segments like agriculture and landscaping equipment.”

Yooseong Oh, Senior Vice President and Head of LG Energy Solution’s Mobility & IT Battery Division, added:

“We are excited to collaborate with Doosan Bobcat, a global leader in construction equipment, to drive forward electrification in this vital sector. LG Energy Solution is committed to powering progress across industries.”

In a parallel initiative, Doosan Bobcat is securing proprietary battery technologies through its partnership with CosMX, a global lithium-ion battery leader based in China. Following a year of successful application in electric forklifts, the two companies signed a Technical Assistance Agreement (TAA) in February 2025. Through the TAA, CosMX will provide Doosan Bobcat with training and technical know-how on battery pack design and manufacturing.

Doosan Bobcat also launched a dedicated battery pack business team in January and is in the process of establishing an R&D center in Pyeongchon, Anyang City, Gyeonggi Province. Scheduled for completion in the second half of 2025, the center will focus on technical validation and development of battery packs for a variety of compact equipment types.

The move strengthens Doosan Bobcat’s vertical integration efforts following its acquisition of Doosan Mottrol, a specialist in hydraulic components, last year.

“With battery packs now joining hydraulics under our umbrella, we’re reinforcing our core component capabilities to support both electrification and conventional equipment,” said CSO Park. “We aim to develop optimal battery solutions by collaborating with top-tier global companies.”
