Doosan Enerbility Lands Major Equipment Contract for Saudi Arabia’s Expanding Power Infrastructure

Seoul, South Korea / Riyadh, Saudi ArabiaDoosan Enerbility, a global leader in power generation equipment, has signed a pair of major supplier agreements totaling KRW 340 billion (USD 245 million) for the delivery of steam turbines and generators to two large-scale gas-fired combined cycle power plant (CCPP) expansion projects in Saudi Arabia.

Supporting Two Flagship Projects: Ghazlan 2 and Hajar

Under these contracts, Doosan will supply two steam turbine and generator packages—one each for the 2,900MW Ghazlan 2 and Hajar Power Plant Expansion projects. Both plants are being developed by a joint venture of Tecnicas Reunidas (Spain) and Orascom (Egypt)—the largest EPC firms in their respective countries.

The facilities are strategically located 400 km northeast of Riyadh, and are slated to come online in phases by 2028. The specific components to be delivered include:

  • 1×650MW and 1×540MW steam turbines
  • Two generators per site

Market Dominance in Ultra-large Steam Turbines

The contract strengthens Doosan’s leadership in the ultra-large steam turbine segment (300.1MW+), where it commands a global market share of 33.1% according to the latest McCoy Report. Over the past five years, Doosan has delivered 7.3GW (12 units) of ultra-large turbines globally—nine of which were for Saudi Arabia alone since 2023.

“Backed by four decades of trust and technological expertise in the Middle East, we are proud to continue contributing to the region’s energy transformation,” said Seungwoo Sohn, CEO of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Services Business Group.
“We are committed to delivering best-in-class products on time and pursuing additional upcoming opportunities.”

Strategic Momentum in the Middle East

The deal reinforces Doosan Enerbility’s strategic momentum in the Gulf, where demand for efficient, low-emission power generation solutions is surging amid rapid industrial growth and energy diversification.

With its strong presence in Saudi Arabia, Doosan is expected to compete for follow-up expansion projects, leveraging its proven track record and operational excellence in executing mega-scale CCPP deliveries.
