Saint-Gobain Indonesia, in collaboration with PT Wijaya Karya Bangunan Gedung Tbk (WEGE) and PT Dex Solusi Transit (Dex), has unveiled the country’s first-ever “Net Zero House” — a groundbreaking prototype that combines modular construction, energy efficiency, and sustainable solutions to address Indonesia’s housing shortage and climate goals.
Indonesia faces a housing deficit of 3 million homes, while also committing to ambitious climate targets. The Net Zero House aims to tackle both challenges by offering housing that is affordable, scalable, and environmentally friendly.
The innovation stands out in three key areas:
- Modular Design – Can be built in just one month, which is 60% faster than traditional methods, and can be expanded over time to meet changing needs.
- Energy Efficiency – Features solar panels, natural ventilation through louvered windows, a planted central patio for improved air circulation, and high-performance solar control glass to significantly reduce cooling needs.
- Sustainable Materials – Incorporates over 35% Saint-Gobain futuRE solutions, launched in November 2024, from brands including Isover, Gyproc, Weber, Ecophon, Mortar Utama, and ADFORS.
A dedicated mobile application allows residents to monitor energy consumption and solar output in real time. The homes are available in four layouts, ranging from 33 m² to 129 m², making them accessible to all income levels while ensuring top-tier energy performance.
Currently undergoing Net Zero GREENSHIP certification from the Green Building Council Indonesia, the project could qualify for green financing. The next step is the first commercial launch in Bali, marking the move from pilot to large-scale deployment.
