Kazakhstan, July 2025 – Liebherr Transportation Systems (China) has successfully delivered its first batch of HVAC systems to the Stadler Rail Group for installation in passenger coaches operated by the Federal Railways of Kazakhstan (KTZ). This marks Liebherr’s first entry into Kazakhstan’s railway market, with 550 HVAC systems to be supplied over the next five years, expanding the company’s international footprint in the railway sector.
The heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems are manufactured in Pinghu, China, and will be fitted into sleeper and couchette coaches developed by Stadler’s subsidiary in Kazakhstan. The partnership supports Kazakhstan’s national railway modernization strategy, emphasizing enhanced passenger comfort and sustainable infrastructure development.
“This order is an important milestone in Liebherr’s internationalization strategy for advanced HVAC technology,” said Lightman Lu, Engineering Manager of Liebherr Transportation Systems (China) and Lead Engineer for the Stadler Kazakhstan LLP project. “Together with Stadler, we developed systems capable of reliable operation at temperatures as low as -50°C, even in harsh, desert-like environments.”
The project also highlights Liebherr’s robust R&D capabilities, with HVAC systems engineered specifically for extreme weather conditions found in Kazakhstan’s diverse climate. This technical achievement further cements Liebherr’s reputation as a global leader in transportation thermal systems.
By partnering with Stadler Rail Group, Liebherr not only supports Kazakhstan’s infrastructure growth but also establishes a new performance benchmark for HVAC systems in demanding railway environments. The full delivery of 550 units is scheduled through 2030, significantly reinforcing Liebherr’s commitment to innovation and expansion in international markets.
