The long-awaited transformation of Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) is nearing completion, with its new $1.7 billion terminal scheduled to open by early November, just ahead of the busy Thanksgiving and year-end travel season.
The project marks the culmination of more than a decade of planning and four years of construction, reshaping the former US Airways hub into a modern, community-focused airport.
Designed collaboratively by Gensler, HDR, and Luis Vidal + Architects, the new terminal showcases contemporary architecture, passenger-friendly design, and a focus on efficiency tailored to the needs of the Pittsburgh region.
“It’s been a lot of work to get here,” said Christina Cassotis, CEO of the Allegheny County Airport Authority, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday. “Being in this space feels good — and that’s a pretty big statement for an airport to make.”
Once fully operational, the terminal will streamline passenger flow, improve amenities, and provide a more seamless travel experience for millions of annual travelers. The modernization reflects Pittsburgh’s continued push to reinvent itself as a hub of innovation, design, and connectivity.
