PsiQuantum and Jacobs Partner to Develop Utility-Scale Quantum Computing Facility in Australia

Brisbane, Australia – January 30, 2025 – PsiQuantum has selected Jacobs (NYSE: J) to lead the master planning, schematic design, and owner’s engineer services for one of the world’s first utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computing facilities. The project, set to be built adjacent to Brisbane Airport, will feature a 540,000-square-foot campus, including a main office building, a large-scale cryoplant, and the Quantum Computing Center, where the advanced quantum computer will be housed.

A Landmark Project for Quantum Computing

PsiQuantum’s quantum computer is designed to tackle complex problems beyond the capabilities of conventional and AI-driven systems. This initiative aligns with Australia’s National Quantum Strategy, fostering a thriving quantum industry that could revolutionize key sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, energy, national defense, and food production.

Construction is slated to begin in late 2025, with completion expected by the end of 2027.

Jacobs’ Role in Bringing Quantum Innovation to Life

Jacobs has been an integral part of the project from the initial design phase. Patrick Hill, Jacobs President of Global Operations, emphasized the company’s expertise:
“We have worked closely with PsiQuantum over the past year to design and validate this facility. Now, as the owner’s engineer, we will leverage our 30+ years of experience in high-tech, mission-critical projects to ensure this facility is secure, scalable, and replicable.”

Fariba Danesh, PsiQuantum COO, also highlighted Jacobs’ key contributions:
Jacobs has been a trusted partner since the beginning of this ambitious project. As we build the world’s first utility-scale quantum computer, we need world-class talent, and Jacobs is helping turn our vision into reality.”

The Future of Quantum Computing

Quantum computing is expected to be the next major leap in computing technology, with unprecedented processing power capable of solving problems that today’s supercomputers cannot. PsiQuantum’s initiative cements Australia’s position as a leader in the global quantum industry, fostering breakthroughs in both commercial and scientific applications.
