Skanska has been awarded a $59 million contract by the County of Riverside Transportation Department to deliver the Mission Boulevard Bridge Replacement Project in Jurupa Valley, California. The project will replace the aging bridge over the Santa Ana River while maintaining traffic flow throughout construction, ensuring continued regional connectivity and safety.
Located just a few miles from Skanska USA Civil West’s headquarters, the Mission Boulevard Bridge plays a critical role in supporting mobility for Riverside County residents and travelers. The new structure will be raised 4 to 6 feet to meet modern flood protection and safety standards and will feature Mission-style architectural elements, including a parabolic soffit.
The scope of work includes utility relocations, seismic retrofitting, enhanced drainage systems, and environmental mitigation measures designed to reduce the project’s footprint and improve long-term resilience. Once completed, the six-span cast-in-place bridge will be 88 feet wide, accommodating multiple traffic lanes, shoulders, a median, and a dedicated 12-foot multipurpose trail for pedestrians, cyclists, and equestrians, separated from vehicular traffic.
Environmental restoration is a key component of the project. Skanska will restore more than 7.46 acres of streambed and habitat onsite, along with an additional 2.05 acres offsite, to offset temporary impacts to fish and wildlife resources.
Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2026, with completion expected in September 2029. The project reinforces Skanska’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe, resilient, and sustainable infrastructure that supports long-term community and environmental goals.
