Skanska Contracts in Sweden and US: Overview

Skanska has secured three new construction contracts worth a combined $313 million across the United States and Sweden.

The projects include a university research facility in Texas, a pedestrian bridge in Los Angeles, and a high school development in Sweden, highlighting the company’s continued expansion in both the education and infrastructure sectors.

Texas A&M Biology Research Building

One of the largest contracts involves constructing the Biology Teaching & Research Building for Texas A&M University in College Station.

The 17,200-square-meter facility, valued at $165 million, will replace several outdated biology buildings and will support advanced education and research activities.

Key features of the building include:

  • Modern research laboratories
  • Classrooms and collaborative learning spaces
  • Advanced technology and data facilities
  • Dedicated areas for biological and biomedical research

Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027 and finish in spring 2029.

Previously, Skanska also secured a $91 million contract in 2025 to build a meat science and technology center at Texas A&M University.

Avalon Pedestrian Bridge in Los Angeles

In Los Angeles, Skanska will construct the $102 million Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway Project.

The project features a concrete cable-stayed arch bridge designed to provide a safe crossing above active rail operations and connect with the nearby Wilmington Waterfront Promenade.

The surrounding redevelopment will transform 12 acres of former industrial land into a public recreational area that will include:

  • A landscaped entry plaza
  • Scenic viewpoints
  • Terrace seating areas
  • Pedestrian pathways
  • Community gathering spaces
  • Parking facilities
  • A 40-foot-tall sundial

Construction begins this month, with completion expected in August 2028.

New High School in Sweden

In Halmstad, Skanska will build a $46 million high school designed to accommodate around 590 students.

The 16,000-square-meter facility will include:

  • Modern classrooms and learning spaces
  • A sports hall
  • A fully equipped school kitchen and dining facilities

Construction will begin next month, and the school is scheduled to welcome students in autumn 2028.

Expanding Global Construction Portfolio

These three projects reinforce Skanska’s strong presence in education infrastructure and urban development across international markets.

By delivering projects ranging from research facilities and transportation infrastructure to educational buildings, the company continues to support community development, public safety, and academic innovation.
