Skanska, in a joint venture with Railroad Construction Company, has signed a contract with the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission to build a standby power generation facility in Newark, New Jersey, USA.
The total contract value is USD 148 million (approximately SEK 1.5 billion), and Skanska will include its share in the U.S. order bookings for the third quarter of 2025.
Powering Resilience
The project involves the installation of power generation equipment capable of producing 34 megawatts of standby power to support the Newark Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) during utility outages. The facility is designed for independent standby operation and will ensure a fully functional, permitted backup power source for uninterrupted plant performance.
Project Timeline
Construction began in the third quarter of 2025, with completion scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2027.
The project reinforces Skanska’s role in strengthening critical infrastructure and building resilient, sustainable systems that support public utilities across the United States.
