Skanska has secured a contract with Statkraft for the construction of the new Svean power plant in the municipality of Klæbu, Trøndelag County, Norway. Valued at NOK 507 million (approximately SEK 500 million), this project will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the first quarter of 2025.
The project involves building a modern hydroelectric power station inside the mountain, ensuring minimal disruption as the current facility, operational since 1940, continues to function for most of the construction period. Key elements of the contract include:
- Excavation of 1.6 kilometers of tunnels for the new facility.
- Utilization of the existing 3-kilometer transfer tunnel from Selbusjøen to Svean while constructing a new intake in Selbusjøen.
- Comprehensive building-related work for the power station infrastructure.
The new Svean power plant will replace the aging station, boosting annual electricity production to approximately 130 GWh, sufficient to power 6,000 households.
Construction Timeline:
- Start: January 2025
- Completion: December 2027
This project aligns with Norway’s commitment to renewable energy, providing a significant upgrade to the region’s energy infrastructure while meeting modern efficiency and sustainability standards.
