Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, along with its partner Drees & Sommer, has been selected to design Silicon Box’s €3.2 billion semiconductor assembly and test facility in Northern Italy. The state-of-the-art facility, scheduled to begin operations in 2028, will be located near Novara, Piedmont, and is expected to generate 1,600 new jobs in the region.

A Milestone in Europe’s Semiconductor Industry

Silicon Box’s new Italian facility will emulate its flagship plant in Singapore, which specializes in large-format panel-level semiconductor packaging solutions. This expansion aims to strengthen Europe’s semiconductor ecosystem and contribute to global supply chain resilience.

Leonard Castro, Executive Vice President for Buildings at Stantec, emphasized:

“The global market is looking for a more secure and robust electronics supply chain. Silicon Box’s expansion into Italy is a significant catalyst to this growing ecosystem in Europe.”

Scope of Stantec’s Design Services

Stantec will provide:

  • Architectural design for administration areas
  • Infrastructure planning and permitting services
  • Sustainability-focused design solutions to align with European environmental standards

Meanwhile, Drees & Sommer will handle:

  • Industrial engineering & structural design
