STRABAG Finishes Key Works at Wrocław Airport

STRABAG has successfully completed critical construction works during a 40-day operational shutdown at Wrocław Airport, marking a major milestone in the largest modernisation and expansion project in the airport’s history. The works were completed on schedule and are a key step toward doubling the airport’s passenger capacity by the end of 2026.

The temporary closure allowed STRABAG to safely connect four newly built taxiways to the existing runway and commission a new navigation and airfield lighting system. Completing these technically complex activities within a limited shutdown window highlights STRABAG’s strong expertise in airport and mobility infrastructure.

Prior to the shutdown, STRABAG had already delivered the new PPS-3 apron, designed to accommodate 12 aircraft, along with several taxiways. Importantly, these works were carried out while the airport remained operational. The next phase of the project will focus on the construction and full modernisation of the remaining taxiway infrastructure.

The €89 million modernisation project is co-financed by the European Union under the CEF2 programme and covers an area of more than 35 hectares. It includes the construction and renewal of over five kilometres of taxiways, each 44 metres wide. In total, approximately 240,000 square metres of asphalt and 110,000 square metres of concrete will be installed.

As an integrated construction solution provider, STRABAG is responsible not only for airside pavements but also for extensive installations related to water and wastewater systems, telecommunications, energy supply, navigation systems, and airfield lighting. Advanced construction technologies are being used to ensure quality control and accurate progress monitoring throughout the project.

Despite the scale and technical complexity of the 26-month construction programme, Wrocław Airport has remained largely operational. By October 2025, the airport had already handled 4.5 million passengers, setting a new record following approximately four million travellers in 2024.

The successful completion of the shutdown works reinforces STRABAG’s position as a leading contractor in airport infrastructure development in Poland and supports Wrocław Airport’s long-term growth and capacity expansion plans.
