New collaboration integrates real-time and historic traffic intelligence into transport modelling and mobility strategies worldwide
TomTom (TOM2) and AECOM (NYSE: ACM) have announced a global strategic alliance designed to enhance infrastructure planning, mobility modelling and road traffic management through advanced location intelligence.
Under the TomTom AECOM traffic data partnership, AECOM will integrate TomTom’s historic and real-time traffic datasets into its global advisory, design and operational services for both public and private sector clients.
Data-Driven Mobility and Infrastructure Planning
Through the agreement, AECOM gains access to TomTom’s suite of traffic analytics tools, including:
- Traffic Stats
- Origin-Destination Analysis
- Historic Traffic Volumes
- Route Monitoring
- Live Traffic
- Junction Analytics
These datasets will be embedded into research initiatives, infrastructure projects, operational teams and managed service solutions. The objective is to deliver more accurate modelling, evidence-based decision-making and optimized infrastructure investment strategies.
As cities face accelerating urbanization, shifting travel patterns and growing sustainability mandates, infrastructure planning requires increasingly granular, real-time insights. The partnership aims to help clients address congestion, accessibility, safety and network resilience challenges.
Enhancing Traffic Operations and Incident Response
In operational environments, TomTom Live Traffic provides low-latency, spatially precise observed speed data and road incident detection capabilities. These tools support:
- Traffic management centers
- Road network managers
- Emergency response services
- National and regional road authorities
By embedding this data within AECOM’s traffic management operations, agencies can respond more effectively to accidents, disruptions and congestion events.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen post-project evaluation, transport policy research and congestion mitigation strategies.
Executive Perspectives
Dwight Pullen, Senior Vice President and Global Aviation and Surface Transport Leader at AECOM, stated that access to TomTom’s traffic intelligence will enhance the firm’s capabilities across mobility planning, congestion reduction and infrastructure evaluation.
Ralf-Peter Schäfer, Vice President for Traffic & Travel Information at TomTom, said the partnership combines AECOM’s infrastructure delivery expertise with TomTom’s location intelligence to support smarter mobility decision-making globally.
Strategic Context
Governments and infrastructure operators are increasingly relying on high-resolution mobility data to plan sustainable transport networks, manage demand and justify capital investments.
The TomTom AECOM traffic data partnership positions both companies to support next-generation transport ecosystems by:
- Improving modelling accuracy
- Supporting safer and more efficient road networks
- Enhancing resilience planning
- Optimizing infrastructure lifecycle investments
