Turner and University of Kentucky Celebrate Topping Out of Agricultural Research Facility

Turner Construction Company and the University of Kentucky have celebrated the topping out of the University’s Agricultural Research Facility, a significant milestone that marks the completion of the vertical construction phase of this transformative $184 million project.

Spanning 235,000 square feet, the state-of-the-art facility is designed to become a hub for advanced agricultural research and hands-on student learning. Key features include high-tech laboratory teaching spaces, faculty offices, rooftop greenhouses, a dedicated teaching greenhouse, and a 250-seat auditorium to encourage academic collaboration and innovation.

“This is a significant achievement for a project that only began deep foundations in November,” said David Opalka, Vice President & Construction Executive at Turner Construction Company. “Our project team has overcome the challenging winter, bringing creative solutions to deliver this milestone. We appreciate the partnership with our design partner BHDP Architecture and the University of Kentucky for their continued trust in Turner to deliver transformative spaces.”

The Agricultural Research Facility represents the latest chapter in a decades-long partnership between Turner and the University of Kentucky, with more than 30 projects completed to date.

The new facility is scheduled for completion in late 2026 and is expected to make a lasting impact on agricultural innovation and education in the region.
