Turner to Remodel and Expand Emergency Department for Oregon Health & Science University

PORTLAND, OR — September 2025Turner Construction Company has begun a $33 million expansion and renovation project for the pediatric wing and emergency department at Oregon Health & Science University’s (OHSU) Mark O. Hatfield Research Center in Portland. The project, launched earlier this month, will significantly enhance patient care capacity and modernize critical emergency services.

Delivered in multiple phases, the project is designed to ensure continuous patient access and minimize disruptions to emergency operations during construction. Once complete, the expanded facility will provide a state-of-the-art, patient-centered emergency care environment for the Portland community.

“We are honored to partner with Oregon Health & Science University on this expansion,” said Andrew Stanton, Project Manager at Turner Construction Company. “This project will create a modern, patient-centered emergency care environment while ensuring that life-saving services continue without interruption during construction.”

The renovation and expansion are expected to be completed in 2028, strengthening OHSU’s role as a leader in pediatric and emergency healthcare services across Oregon and the Pacific Northwest.
