Two Liebherr Cranes Drive Progress on Germany’s A45 Rahmede Valley Bridge Project

North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany – Two Liebherr 340 EC-B 16 flat-top cranes are playing a pivotal role in the replacement of the Rahmede Valley Bridge on Germany’s A45 motorway, ensuring safe and precise lifting operations that keep the project on schedule.

Supplied by BKL Baukran Logistik GmbH, one of Europe’s leading crane service providers, the cranes boast 75-metre jibs and hook heights of 61 and 65 metres. Installed on foundation anchors, they enable seamless concrete pouring and assembly work along the 453-metre-long bridge construction site.

Precision Lifting for Complex Construction Phases

Since October 2023, the cranes have been instrumental in every stage of the project — from building eight main bridge piers to concreting deck slabs. Their stable design, combined with efficient transport and assembly processes, makes them ideal for demanding infrastructure works.

Supporting the Transport Transition on the A45

The Rahmede Valley Bridge is a vital part of the Sauerland Line, a major north–south transport corridor. The new bridge will replace the outdated and structurally unsound structure, ensuring long-term traffic flow in one of Germany’s busiest regions.

Despite tight delivery schedules and limited space on site, the Liebherr EC-B series cranes have excelled. With only four transport units required, they can be mobilised quickly, and their “Load Plus” feature boosts lifting capacity by up to 20% on demand.

The cranes will remain operational until their scheduled dismantling in autumn 2025, continuing to ensure precision, efficiency, and reliability throughout the project.
