UGL Secures $114 Million Contract to Boost Western Australia’s Clean Energy Infrastructure

UGL, a member of the CIMIC Group, has been awarded a $114 million contract by Western Power, the state-owned electricity network operator in Western Australia, as part of the WA Government’s Clean Energy Link – North project. The new contract marks a major step forward in transforming Western Australia’s electricity grid to accommodate increasing renewable energy generation and support the state’s net-zero ambitions.

Under the agreement, UGL will deliver engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services at two strategic sites:

  • At the Three Springs Terminal, located 300 km north of Perth, UGL will prepare the terminal for renewable energy integration, involving the design and installation of high-voltage transmission and substation equipment.
  • At Neerabup Terminal, 35 km from Perth, UGL will carry out transmission line modifications and support connections to the Neerabup Substation, where it is already engaged in substation extension works.

Work is scheduled to begin in 2025 and is expected to complete by 2027.

Juan Santamaría, Executive Chairman of the CIMIC Group, emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership, saying:

“Our work with Western Power is contributing to the transformation of the electricity network, supporting large-scale renewable energy and enabling a secure, clean energy future for Western Australia.”

UGL Managing Director Doug Moss highlighted UGL’s national experience:

“We’ve delivered numerous renewable energy assets and installed over 7,000 km of transmission infrastructure across Australia. We’re proud to bring this expertise to Western Australia and will ensure the project is delivered safely and efficiently, while also engaging local businesses.”

Sam Barbaro, CEO of Western Power, stated:

“These contracts lay the groundwork for the next five years. UGL’s involvement is critical in delivering the infrastructure required to transition to renewable energy and reach net-zero emissions.”

This milestone further cements UGL’s role in the national energy transition while enhancing grid reliability and sustainability across Western Australia.
