VINCI Construction Wins €450M Contract to Upgrade Eastern Freeway in Melbourne

Melbourne, Australia — September 2025 — VINCI Construction, through its Australian subsidiary Seymour Whyte, has secured a design and build contract as part of a major alliance to upgrade the Hoddle to Burke section of the Eastern Freeway in Victoria.

The €450 million (AUD 800 million) project is being delivered by a partnership of Seymour Whyte, John Holland, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald, and Major Road Projects Victoria. Seymour Whyte and John Holland will share the construction contract equally (50:50), with completion expected by mid-2028.

The project will significantly enhance capacity and transport efficiency along one of Melbourne’s busiest freeway corridors. Planned works include:

  • Addition of one new lane in each direction.
  • A dedicated busway to improve public transport access.
  • Shared-use paths for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Construction of civil structures and noise barriers to improve liveability for local residents.

This contract marks a major step in supporting Melbourne’s growing transport needs, providing improved mobility, sustainability, and community amenity across the eastern suburbs.
