VINCI, through its subsidiary Cobra IS, has won a major contract to electrify the Rail Baltica project covering Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The total value of the contract is €1.77 billion, with VINCI’s share amounting to €885 million.
The project will electrify 870 km of railway lines, making it one of the largest rail electrification projects in Europe. The work will be done in two phases, with the first phase worth €950 million starting on October 1 and expected to be completed by 2030.
Rail Baltica is a key infrastructure project that will connect the Baltic railway system to the rest of Europe, supporting faster, more efficient, and greener transport for both passengers and goods.
The project will also mark the first large-scale use of Static Frequency Converter (SFC) technology in the region. This system will be powered by 10 substations, improving the reliability, efficiency, and environmental performance of the rail network.
European Union and Baltic government leaders highlighted the project’s importance at the signing ceremony, calling it a major step toward a unified and modern rail network.
