Virgin Media O2 has opened its new 81,750-square-foot London headquarters in Paddington, marking the first major workplace investment since the merger of Virgin Media and O2 in 2021. Designed by Gensler, the headquarters emphasizes connectivity, inclusivity, and hybrid work flexibility, reflecting the telecom giant’s brand ethos: “See what you can do.”
The six-floor hub, plus additional ground-floor space, brings together diverse teams under one roof while translating Virgin Media O2’s largely intangible services like broadband and mobile networks into a tangible, engaging workplace experience. Megan Dobstaff, design director at Gensler London, explained:
“It was a challenge to take some things that aren’t necessarily tangible products and to bring them to life in the space.”
Themed Floors and Immersive Design
Each floor was designed with a unique cultural theme—such as streaming, gaming, dance, music, and sports—showcasing Virgin Media O2’s influence in people’s daily lives. Sports zones feature bleacher-style seating and turf-inspired carpets, while the music level incorporates black and white piano-like design elements.
The 9th floor serves as a flexible gathering hub with an arena for corporate events, a café for informal collaboration, and libraries for focused individual work. Instead of conventional signage, sensory cues and architectural motifs guide employees through each zone.
A Blend of Brand and Sustainability
Virgin Media O2’s brand colors—deep red and blue—were woven into workspaces, while lighter shades highlight hospitality-inspired lounges. Soft and deep greens complement natural foliage, creating an energizing yet balanced environment.
Sustainability was also a central design principle: the project saved approximately 630 tons of carbon through eco-conscious practices. Dobstaff emphasized the long-term vision, noting, “We created these experience destinations, which hopefully will help to change behavior and evolve how the employees are working.”
