Volvo CE and PT Indotruck Utama Pioneer Indonesia’s First L25 Electric Wheel Loader Trial

Marking a major milestone in sustainable operations, Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE), in partnership with its local dealer PT Indotruck Utama (ITU), launched the first-ever trial of the L25 Electric Compact Wheel Loader in Indonesia.

The trial, conducted from August 28 to October 28, 2024, took place at a customer site in Central Kalimantan, signaling a bold step toward introducing environmentally friendly machinery to the region. The L25 Electric, Volvo’s groundbreaking electric compact wheel loader, offers zero tailpipe emissions, ultra-quiet operation, and integrates advanced battery technology with Volvo’s renowned compact wheel loader platform.

Key Features and Trial Highlights

Vincent Santoso, Sales and Marketing Director at PT Indotruck Utama, highlighted the machine’s benefits:

  • Versatility and Low Environmental Impact: The L25 Electric is capable of replacing traditional equipment in a variety of applications, making it ideal for enclosed areas due to its silent operation and carbon-free emissions.
  • Operational Efficiency: With a 4-to-6-hour battery autonomy, the machine ensures uninterrupted performance, leveraging intermittent charging during breaks and shift changes.
  • Ease of Use and Maintenance: Operators praised the reliable design, attachment compatibility (e.g., buckets, forks, and quick couplers), and straightforward maintenance requirements.

Throughout the trial, Volvo CE and ITU maintained reliable service support by deploying a standby mechanic on-site, ensuring seamless operations and addressing any technical needs promptly.

Future Trials and Sustainability Goals

Buoyed by the trial’s success, Volvo CE and ITU are gearing up for additional trials in East Kalimantan and Bangka Island in Q1 2025. These initiatives align with Volvo CE’s mission to deliver innovative, sustainable solutions tailored to meet Indonesia’s growing demand for environmentally conscious technologies.

Raven Chua, Head of Market West for Region Asia at Volvo CE, remarked:

“This collaboration with PT Indotruck Utama demonstrates our shared commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation. By integrating cutting-edge battery technology with Volvo’s engineering expertise, the L25 Electric combines productivity, safety, and environmental responsibility. This trial underscores the potential of collaborative efforts to drive a more sustainable future.”

This landmark trial emphasizes the transformative role of electric equipment in reshaping Indonesia’s heavy equipment industry, proving that sustainability and performance can go hand-in-hand.
