Smulders to Build Jacket Foundations for Electrical Substations in Normandy’s Offshore Wind Farms

Smulders, a Belgian subsidiary of Eiffage Métal, has been awarded the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract by Chantiers de l’Atlantique, on behalf of RTE, to manufacture jacket foundations for the electrical substations of the Centre Manche 1 and Centre Manche 2 offshore wind farms in Normandy, France.

Key Project Details

  • Foundation Structures: Each jacket foundation will weigh approximately 7,000 tonnes and support electrical transformer substations with a capacity of 1.25 GW each.

  • Fabrication begins in 2026 at Smulders’ production sites in Belgium.
  • Final assembly will occur at Smulders’ facility in Vlissingen, Netherlands.
  • Handover is scheduled for 2029 (Centre Manche 1) and 2030 (Centre Manche 2).
  • Collaboration: Smulders will be supported by teams from Eiffage Métal in France to deliver the project.
