STRABAG SE, a leading European technology and construction group, has signed a term sheet to acquire WTE Group, a prominent provider of municipal and industrial water management services. Currently wholly owned by EVN Group, WTE specializes in planning, financing, building, and operating projects in wastewater management, water supply, sewage sludge treatment, and energy recovery across Europe and the Middle East.
Klemens Haselsteiner, CEO of STRABAG SE, emphasized the strategic importance of the acquisition:
“Population growth and climate change require well-functioning water supply and wastewater disposal systems. The planned acquisition of WTE’s business ideally complements our existing expertise in the field of water infrastructure and would make us one of the leading full-service providers in this area.”
This move aligns with STRABAG’s Strategy 2030, which focuses on expanding its service portfolio in energy and water infrastructure while enhancing its value chain depth. STRABAG Water Technologies already has an established market presence, and the addition of WTE’s capabilities will transform STRABAG into a full-service provider for water infrastructure, offering end-to-end solutions.
The WTE business to be acquired is projected to generate an annual output of approximately €300 million, further solidifying STRABAG’s position in the market.
Transaction Details
- The deal aims to conclude by February 2025, pending final agreements with EVN, supervisory board approval, and necessary antitrust and regulatory clearances.
- STRABAG will finance the acquisition through its existing liquidity resources.
