South Korea’s latest semiconductor plant, a project of national significance, has enlisted the capabilities of the Grove GMK5250XL-1 all-terrain crane. Local contractor JE IL selected the crane, citing its compact design, impressive 150-ton capacity, and 78.5-meter boom length, as well as Manitowoc’s outstanding service and support as key factors in their decision.
The five-axle GMK5250XL-1 is known for its flexibility and operational versatility, making it well-suited for this high-profile construction project and a range of future endeavors. The crane’s agility and compatibility with secondary auxiliary hoists promise enhanced efficiency during operations. It will primarily be deployed with its main boom and full counterweight configurations, with limited reliance on the swing-away jib.
Roy Lim, sales manager for Manitowoc Korea, noted that JE IL’s choice was heavily influenced by their positive experience with the GMK6300L-1 and their continued trust in Grove’s cutting-edge technology and reliable performance.
The crane was imported through Pyeongtaek Port, conveniently close to JE IL’s base of operations. This enabled a swift transfer to the construction site, followed by a three-day training session conducted by Manitowoc to ensure the team was fully prepared for its operation.
The Grove GMK5250XL-1’s debut at the semiconductor facility underscores its crucial role in South Korea’s ambitious manufacturing and electronics expansion, positioning it as a vital asset in the nation’s construction landscape.
