Volvo EC950 High Reach Demolition Excavator Features

Volvo Construction Equipment has raised the bar for large-scale demolition with the launch of the EC950 High Reach, the largest high-reach demolition excavator ever produced by the company.

The new model expands Volvo CE’s high-reach lineup — joining the EC400, EC500 and EC750 High Reach — as demand grows for safer, purpose-built machines capable of dismantling multi-storey structures with greater control and efficiency.

Designed for the most demanding demolition projects, the Volvo EC950 High Reach demolition excavator combines a modular, multi-configuration design with exceptional stability, advanced safety systems and demolition-specific technology.

Built for the biggest demolition challenges

With an operating weight of more than 400,000 pounds, the EC950 High Reach can reach a maximum working height of 161 feet while handling tools weighing up to 7,500 pounds.

“The EC950 High Reach is the latest Special Application Solution from Volvo,” said Tony den Hoed, Director of Strategic Demolition Accounts for Volvo Construction Equipment North America.

“It combines size, strength and intelligent design to enable customers to achieve outstanding results on the largest and most challenging demolition projects.”

The machine was developed by Volvo engineers in collaboration with Volvo-authorised partners, with all aftermarket parts and warranty support provided through Volvo CE North America and its dealer network.

Modular design simplifies transport and setup

Transporting ultra-high-reach machines is a major challenge for demolition contractors — and one Volvo tackled head-on with the EC950 High Reach.

Its modular boom and arm system allows the machine to be easily assembled and disassembled, keeping transport dimensions within standard limits. Features supporting efficient transport include:

  • Hydraulic removable counterweight
  • Detachable side tracks
  • Modular boom and arm sections
  • Hinged walkways
  • Hook-on modular undercarriage units

With a maximum transport height of just 11 ft 9 in (3.6 m), the EC950 can be quickly configured on-site to suit specific applications, helping contractors reduce logistics costs while maximising machine utilisation.

Exceptional stability and strength

Built to meet Volvo Ultra High Reach (UHR) stability criteria, the EC950 High Reach delivers confidence-inspiring stability even with heavy attachments at extended reach.

Key structural features include:

  • A reinforced upper frame with a dedicated boom adapter
  • Larger boom and cylinder pins
  • A heavy-duty Volvo undercarriage
  • A specially developed ring gear engineered to withstand extreme loads

Together, these components provide the durability required for high-stress demolition environments.

Advanced demolition technology boosts safety and productivity

The EC950 High Reach is equipped with a comprehensive suite of demolition-specific safety and productivity features, including:

  • A tilting cab offering up to 30° tilt for improved upward visibility
  • Volvo Total Moment Indicator (TMI) for real-time stability monitoring
  • Volvo Smart View cameras, with optional obstacle detection

Operator protection is enhanced through:

  • P5A-certified polycarbonate cab windows
  • Frame-mounted falling object guard (FOG)
  • Full track guards, undercover protection and slew ring covers
  • Boom and bucket cylinder protection

Industry-leading operator environment

Volvo’s reputation for operator comfort continues with the EC950 High Reach. The spacious, low-noise cab features:

  • Ergonomically positioned joysticks, keypad and LCD monitor
  • Hydraulic dampening mounts and sound-absorbing insulation
  • A fully adjustable ergonomic seat with independently moving joystick consoles

An integrated heating and air conditioning system delivers filtered, pressurised air, ensuring operator comfort in all weather conditions.

Cleaner, safer worksites

To address increasing regulatory scrutiny around dust control, the EC950 High Reach includes an integrated dust suppression and cleaning system. Dual water spray nozzles reduce airborne dust, while a high-pressure washer helps keep components clean, improving machine longevity and reducing maintenance needs.

Availability

The Volvo EC950 High Reach demolition excavator is currently available in North America. Customers can contact their local Volvo CE dealer for more information.
