Komatsu Ltd. has been recognized by CDP, a global non-profit environmental disclosure platform, with an “A List” rating for both climate change and water management, the highest possible score. This achievement marks the tenth consecutive year Komatsu has received the top rating for climate change and the sixth consecutive year for water.
CDP evaluates companies on how effectively they address environmental challenges and disclose related information. In the climate change category, companies are assessed on how climate measures are integrated into business strategies, including CO₂ emissions reduction and climate risk management. In the water category, the evaluation focuses on how organizations manage water-related risks such as shortages and flooding, both in their operations and across supply chains.
Under its Strategic Growth Plan launched this fiscal year, Komatsu continues to set clear management targets to reduce environmental impact. These include key performance indicators for lowering CO₂ emissions and reducing water consumption, ensuring steady progress over the medium and long term.
To address climate change, Komatsu is working to reduce CO₂ emissions from its production processes while also lowering emissions during product use. Key initiatives include the development of electric construction equipment powered by batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, compatibility with carbon-neutral fuels, and advancements in solutions and remanufacturing businesses. The company is also developing underwater electric construction robots and other technologies to help prevent and recover from climate-related natural disasters.
In water management, Komatsu focuses on optimizing water use and improving efficiency in production. Measures include recycling cooling water and replacing water-cooled systems with air-cooled systems to reduce the use of newly introduced water.
Komatsu’s strong corporate governance and proactive disclosure of environmental initiatives have also contributed to its continued recognition by CDP. This latest “A List” rating highlights the company’s long-term commitment to sustainable growth and responsible environmental management.
