Helsinki, Finland – July 2025: Kalmar, a global leader in sustainable material handling solutions, has launched its second-generation lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery system, delivering significant improvements in energy capacity, thermal stability, and performance reliability for its electric counterbalanced equipment lineup. The new battery technology is now globally available with the European standard, while U.S. and Chinese standard versions are expected in 2026.
The Gen 2 Li-ion battery will power Kalmar’s electric reachstackers, empty container handlers, and forklifts, supporting customers in their transition to zero-emission equipment without compromising operational performance.
Key Highlights of the Gen 2 Battery System:
- Extended Battery Life: Enhanced cell chemistry boosts energy throughput, ensuring longer operational lifespan and reducing replacement costs.
- Improved Performance: In heavy-duty terminal operations, Kalmar electric reachstackers can now operate for up to 10 hours on a single charge.
- Thermal Resilience: Designed for hot climate operations, the battery offers greater thermal stability and operational safety.
- Lower Total Cost of Ownership: Predictable performance curve and increased uptime support better shift planning and reduce operational disruptions.
Peter Berndtson, Vice President of the Counter Balanced Product Line at Kalmar, emphasized:
“Our second-generation battery is a major step forward in helping our customers transition to fully electric fleets without compromising performance. The enhanced safety, longer lifespan and improved operating times provide our customers with a high level of predictability and peace of mind.”
Kalmar continues to set benchmarks in eco-efficient cargo-handling technology, helping ports, terminals, and logistics operations achieve their sustainability and electrification targets.
