Project Overview
ACCIONA has secured a contract from the Madrid regional government to build and operate the largest 100% renewable public EV charging hub within Madrid’s M-30 ring road.
The facility will feature a total installed capacity of 4,000 kilowatts (kW) and is scheduled to become operational in 2027.
Located at 276 Paseo de la Castellana, opposite Madrid’s Four Towers business district and within the future Madrid Nuevo Norte development area, the site will transform a disused petrol station into a next-generation electric mobility hub.
Key Infrastructure Features
The ACCIONA Madrid EV charging hub will include:
- 20 ultra-fast charging points (up to 400kW each)
- 19 for passenger vehicles
- 1 dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles
- A battery-swapping station for Silence electric vehicles
- A total installed capacity of 4,000kW
- A 1,281-square-meter development area
The hub is designed to meet the increasing demand for high-capacity urban charging infrastructure within central Madrid.
Renewable Energy and Sustainability Components
A defining feature of the ACCIONA Madrid EV charging hub is its commitment to 100% certified renewable energy.
The facility will incorporate:
- On-site solar panels for self-consumption
- A system designed to generate a net annual energy surplus of over 35,000kWh
- A real-time renewable energy traceability system
- A photocatalytic façade capable of removing air pollutants
These measures align with Madrid’s broader decarbonization strategy and aim to improve urban air quality within the M-30 ring road.
Mobility Hub Design and Public Use
Beyond charging infrastructure, the project has been conceived as a multi-functional mobility hub.
Under a single canopy structure, the facility will integrate:
- Charging stations
- A ground-floor vending area
- Accessible restrooms
- A first-floor multipurpose space for outreach and electric mobility events
The architectural approach emphasizes sustainable materials, including wood, photocatalytic ceramic, and locally sourced natural stone, reinforcing its environmental credentials.
Long-Term Operation and Strategic Context
ACCIONA will operate the site for 30 years, strengthening its position as a key player in urban electrification infrastructure.
The company currently provides access to more than 5,000 charging points across Spain and Portugal, covering urban zones and major intercity corridors.
The project marks another milestone in the expansion of renewable-powered transport infrastructure and signals Madrid’s commitment to accelerating the shift toward zero-emission mobility within its central urban core.
Why This Matters
The ACCIONA Madrid EV charging hub represents a shift from conventional fueling infrastructure toward integrated, renewable-powered mobility ecosystems. By combining ultra-fast charging, energy self-sufficiency, and community-oriented design, the development positions Madrid at the forefront of sustainable urban transport innovation.
