Ferrovial and Acciona Inaugurate New Section of Road in Chimbote, Peru

Ferrovial, in consortium with Acciona, has completed the construction of a 29.7-kilometer highway that extends the Pan-American Highway through the city of Chimbote in northern Peru. This new section will help reduce traffic congestion in the municipality and cut travel time by approximately 65%, from two hours to 40 minutes.

The project involved an investment of 600 million Peruvian sol (around 142 million euros) and was executed in 2 years and 9 months, completing 3 months ahead of schedule. It also included the construction of critical infrastructure such as two bridges, three traffic circles, six underpasses, frontage roads, and systems to carry irrigation water across the road.

Drones played a crucial role in improving construction efficiency, detecting areas for improvement, and enhancing safety standards.

Ferrovial and Acciona also implemented several initiatives to improve the living standards and environment of the local communities. These efforts included a training program for farmers aimed at boosting local employability and improving irrigation management. During the project’s operations, the consortium guaranteed a continuous water supply for irrigation and developed a dust control and mitigation plan to protect crops in the region.

Ferrovial in Peru
Ferrovial has been operating in Peru since 2013 and has developed significant infrastructure projects, including the Jorge Chávez International Airport control tower, Lima’s Peripheral Ring Road, and the Chimbote bypass. Through its Horizon 24 strategic plan, the company continues to focus on sustainable infrastructure development in the country. Additionally, Ferrovial’s Social Infrastructure program has benefitted more than 29,000 people in Peru through investments of over 1.3 million euros in projects to improve drinking water and sanitation.
