Arcadis to Deliver Key Services for $2.3 Billion Calcasieu River Bridge Project in Louisiana

Global design and engineering leader Arcadis has been selected to provide critical design, mobility, and permitting services for the I-10 Calcasieu Bridge Improvements Project in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The large-scale infrastructure effort—valued at $2.3 billion—will replace the aging Calcasieu River Bridge and upgrade a 5.5-mile stretch of the I-10 corridor, improving safety, connectivity, and resilience for one of the region’s most vital transportation links.

🚧 A Transformative Regional Infrastructure Project

The 70-year-old Calcasieu Bridge has long served as a major connector between Lake Charles and Westlake. Its replacement, overseen by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) and developed by Calcasieu Bridge Partners (a consortium of Acciona, Sacyr, and Plenary), marks a major leap forward in regional infrastructure renewal.

Arcadis will work within the Calcasieu Design Partners joint venture, alongside Janssen & Spaans Engineering, Modjeski and Masters, and Huval & Associates, Inc., to support the construction JV led by Acciona and Sacyr Construction.

🌍 Arcadis’ Global Expertise in Action

Arcadis will apply its global delivery model, engaging teams across North America, the Netherlands, and Global Excellence Centers in India, Romania, and the Philippines. The company’s eight-year scope includes:

  • Environmental studies and permitting
  • 🚦 Traffic engineering, including signage, signals, and a full Transportation Management Plan
  • 📡 Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)
  • 🛠️ Structural design for roadways, signage supports, and drainage
  • 🌉 Bridge design for the I-10/I-210 flyover and hydraulic modeling for the main span

Alan Brookes, CEO of Arcadis, stated:
“The Calcasieu River Bridge has served the region for 70 years, but as it nears the end of its lifespan, the need for intelligent, modern, and sustainable solutions is more critical than ever. We’re proud to help design a transportation system that is safer, more connected, and resilient for future generations.”

🛣️ A Strategic Infrastructure Legacy

The Calcasieu Bridge replacement is not just a construction project—it’s a cornerstone in Louisiana’s long-term transportation modernization strategy. By combining cutting-edge engineering, sustainability-focused design, and international collaboration, Arcadis aims to contribute meaningfully to regional development and future mobility.

The firm’s successful track record includes globally significant programs like Sydney’s WestConnex, the Hudson Tunnel Project in New York, and the UK’s Lower Thames Crossing.

This project reinforces Arcadis’ growing role as a leader in resilient transportation infrastructure, particularly in design-build and public-private partnership (P3) environments.
