Arizona DOT Starts SR 347 Improvement Project This Summer

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) is moving forward with the next phase of the State Route 347 (SR 347) Improvement Project, naming Sundt Construction as the highest-ranking contractor and initiating negotiations for pre-construction services.

The $396 million project will upgrade a 15-mile stretch of SR 347 between Interstate 10 and the City of Maricopa, a critical corridor serving commuters in Maricopa and Pinal counties and passing primarily through the Gila River Indian Community. Construction is expected to begin this summer and continue for approximately three years.

Following an extensive evaluation process, Sundt Construction was selected to enter negotiations, which are expected to conclude in February. Early contractor involvement will allow Sundt to contribute constructability expertise and cost input as final design work progresses.

Planned improvements include:

  • Adding one lane in each direction along SR 347 from I-10 to the City of Maricopa
  • Rehabilitating existing pavement along the 15-mile corridor
  • Constructing new grade-separated interchanges at Riggs Road and Mammoth Way
  • Adding turn lanes and intersection upgrades at Casa Blanca Road and Maricopa Road

Once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve capacity, reduce congestion, and enhance safety and traffic flow on one of the region’s most heavily used roadways.

Project funding is provided by the State of Arizona, the Maricopa Association of Governments, the City of Maricopa, and Pinal County. The project does not include federal funding.

ADOT officials emphasized that the SR 347 Improvement Project represents a major investment in regional mobility and economic connectivity, supporting long-term growth south of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
