Bechtel Chosen as EPC Contractor for Eva Copper Project

Bechtel has been appointed by Harmony as the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the Eva Copper Mine Project in Northwest Queensland. The project includes delivery of the copper concentrator and associated non-process infrastructure for a major new greenfield mining development.

The Eva Copper Mine Project will establish a long-life open-pit operation and is set to become the largest new copper mine in the region. The development is expected to play a significant role in Australia’s critical minerals strategy, supporting global demand for copper driven by electrification and the energy transition.

Following the successful completion of an updated front-end engineering design and a final investment decision approved by Harmony’s Board of Directors in November 2025, Bechtel was selected as the EPC partner for the project. First copper production is targeted for 2028, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026.

Bechtel will be responsible for delivering the copper concentrator and supporting infrastructure, drawing on its extensive global experience in large-scale copper project execution. Over the past three decades, Bechtel has delivered 42 major copper projects worldwide, representing around 40 percent of global copper production capacity.

The project is expected to generate employment opportunities in Queensland and create strong demand for regional suppliers during the construction and operational phases. It also strengthens Australia’s position in the global copper supply chain, a critical input for modern infrastructure, renewable energy systems, and low-carbon technologies.

The appointment further reinforces Bechtel’s role as a leading partner in the delivery of complex mining and metals projects and highlights continued investment in Australia’s resources sector to support long-term economic growth and energy transition goals.
