AECOM to Support Transformed Mobility Across Austin, Texas by Delivering the City’s First Light Rail System

AECOM Selected as Delivery Partner for Transformative Austin Light Rail Project

AECOM (NYSE: ACM), a global leader in infrastructure, has officially been selected as the delivery partner for the Austin Transit Partnership (ATP). This partnership will support the transformative Phase 1 of Austin’s first light rail transit system, a critical step in modernizing the city’s transportation network.

Transforming Austin’s Urban Mobility

Phase 1 of this landmark project will introduce a 10-mile light rail system featuring 15 stations. The system is designed to improve regional connectivity and mobility by linking major local destinations, including:

  • Downtown Austin
  • The University of Texas at Austin
  • Lady Bird Lake

Future expansions are already envisioned to connect major hubs to the north and the airport.

AECOM’s Comprehensive Delivery Role

As the primary delivery partner, AECOM will lead a robust technical team and manage several high-stakes responsibilities, including:

  • Program Management Oversight: Ensuring the project stays on track and meets all requirements.
  • Design & Environmental Management: Balancing infrastructure needs with environmental protection.
  • Rail Activation & Operational Readiness: Preparing the system for safe, reliable public use.
  • Promoting Equity: Collaborating with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) firms to provide opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged individuals.

Leadership Perspectives

“This critical project will transform how Austinites navigate their city, stimulate economic growth, protect the environment, and promote a sustainable future for generations to come.” — Lara Poloni, President of AECOM

Drew Jeter, CEO of AECOM’s Program Management global business line, emphasized that AECOM’s expertise in large-scale transit programs will help meet the growing demand for reliable transportation in the city. Greg Canally, Executive Director of ATP, added that AECOM’s selection reflects a “shared values and collaborative spirit” essential for a project of this scale.

A Cornerstone of the Austin Strategic Mobility Plan (ASMP)

The Austin Light Rail is a key component of the city’s broader strategy to enhance accessibility and reliability. As Austin’s population continues to grow, this project serves as a cornerstone of the city’s transportation infrastructure, aligning with goals for a more resilient and sustainable urban future.
