Sydney Metro West Stations Design Revealed

Sydney Metro West Stations Design Revealed

The Sydney Metro West stations design has taken a major step forward, as Jacobs, alongside GHD and WSP, has been appointed to deliver five new underground stations. This development is part of the Stations Package West, a key component of the broader Sydney Metro West project in Australia.

The 24-kilometer metro line will connect Greater Parramatta to Sydney’s central business district. As a result, it will significantly improve access to fast and reliable transport. Moreover, it will strengthen connectivity between inner and western suburbs while supporting housing, jobs, and local services along the corridor.

Key Stations Under the Sydney Metro West Stations Design

Under this contract, the joint venture will provide integrated engineering design services for five stations:

  • Westmead
  • North Strathfield
  • Burwood North
  • Five Dock
  • The Bays

Meanwhile, Gamuda will lead construction as the primary contractor. The collaboration ensures both global expertise and local delivery capabilities.

Sustainability at the Core of Design

Importantly, sustainability remains central to the Sydney Metro West stations design. The project is targeting a 6-Star Green Star As Built rating, which reflects a strong commitment to environmentally responsible infrastructure. In addition, the design approach focuses on high performance, reduced emissions, and long-term operational efficiency.

Jacobs Executive Vice President Sinead Giblin emphasized that the project builds on the company’s global experience. She noted that these stations will not only enhance connectivity but also support economic growth across Western Sydney.

Strengthening Infrastructure and Community Growth

Furthermore, the project is expected to play a vital role in shaping Sydney’s future transport network. By improving accessibility, it will encourage urban development and reduce travel times. At the same time, it will support sustainable city planning.

Gamuda Project Director Richard Petaccia highlighted the importance of the collaboration. He stated that delivering the Stations Package West reflects the team’s strong track record and commitment to excellence.

Building on Previous Sydney Metro Experience

Notably, this is not the first involvement of Jacobs in the Sydney Metro West project. Previously, the company contributed to environmental advisory services and worked on the central tunnel and station excavation package, completed in 2025. Therefore, this new contract further strengthens its role in Australia’s largest transport initiative.
