AECOM Appoints Andrea Green to Lead UK and Europe Rail Business

AECOM has appointed Andrea Green as Director for Rail and Transit in the UK and Europe, strengthening its transportation leadership team.

The appointment comes amid significant investment and ongoing reforms across the UK rail industry.

Green joins AECOM from Alstom, bringing 30 years of experience in engineering, project delivery, business development and senior leadership.

She will lead efforts to expand AECOM’s rail business, strengthen client relationships and support major railway infrastructure programmes.

Andrea Green Brings 30 Years of Rail Industry Experience

Andrea Green previously served as Business Development Director at Alstom.

During her tenure, she led the development and delivery of the company’s UK growth and resilience strategy.

A civil engineer by background, Green has extensive experience across engineering and infrastructure project management.

Her new role will focus on developing AECOM’s rail business across the UK and Europe.

In addition, she will bring together the company’s multidisciplinary capabilities to support major rail projects.

Her responsibilities will include strengthening relationships with existing clients and identifying opportunities for business growth.

AECOM to Support Major Rail Infrastructure Programmes

The AECOM Andrea Green rail appointment comes as the company continues its involvement in major transportation projects.

These include Network Rail’s Southern Renewals Enterprise and the Leamside Line in the United Kingdom.

AECOM is also involved in the North Bothnia Line in Sweden.

Green will help coordinate the company’s expertise across these programmes.

Furthermore, her appointment supports AECOM’s efforts to expand its role in railway development and modernisation.

The company aims to combine engineering, planning and project delivery capabilities to meet changing industry requirements.

Appointment Strengthens Europe and India Transportation Leadership

Green will join AECOM’s Europe and India Transportation leadership team.

Her appointment follows the recent arrival of Darren Cook, who joined the company in September 2026.

Cook serves as Director for Highways and Streets within the same division.

Together, these appointments strengthen AECOM’s leadership across rail and road transportation.

Steve Higham, Managing Director for Transport, Europe and India at AECOM, highlighted the opportunities emerging across the rail sector.

“There’s a huge opportunity ahead for AECOM in rail, with major programmes like Northern Powerhouse Rail moving forward alongside wider investment and change across the industry,” Higham said.

He also emphasised the company’s technical capabilities and international expertise.

AECOM Highlights Growth Opportunities in UK Rail

The UK rail sector is undergoing significant investment and structural change.

Major infrastructure programmes are creating opportunities for engineering and transportation companies.

AECOM expects these developments to support demand for planning, design and project delivery services.

Higham described Green as an important addition to the company’s leadership team.

He highlighted her experience in developing businesses, maintaining client relationships and leading teams.

According to Higham, her leadership will help AECOM build on its existing rail capabilities.

The company also expects to pursue opportunities associated with new railway infrastructure investment.

Andrea Green Emphasises Sustainable Rail Development

Andrea Green welcomed her appointment and highlighted the importance of investment in railway infrastructure.

“This is a pivotal time to be joining AECOM,” Green said.

She noted that the industry has opportunities to rethink how railway projects are planned and delivered.

Green also emphasised the role of rail transport in connecting communities and supporting economic development.

Additionally, she highlighted the importance of rail in creating a more sustainable transportation system.

In her new position, Green will work with AECOM colleagues, clients and industry partners.

Her focus will include supporting the delivery of future railway infrastructure across the region.

Green Continues Railway Industry Association Leadership Role

Alongside her responsibilities at AECOM, Green will continue serving as Vice Chair of the Railway Industry Association’s Exports Leadership Group.

The group works with industry representatives and government organisations to support UK rail suppliers entering international markets.

Her involvement provides an additional connection between AECOM and the wider railway industry.

Green is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability.

These positions complement her professional experience in transportation infrastructure and business development.

AECOM Expands Rail Leadership Amid Industry Investment

The appointment reflects AECOM’s focus on strengthening its transportation business across the UK and Europe.

Green will contribute her engineering background, commercial experience and industry relationships to the role.

Meanwhile, the company continues to support major rail programmes in the United Kingdom and Sweden.

The AECOM Andrea Green rail appointment also reinforces the company’s leadership capabilities during a period of investment and change.

With Green joining its senior transportation team, AECOM aims to expand its rail business and support the delivery of future infrastructure projects.
