Brisbane 2032 Olympics Construction: What to Expect

Senior leaders from the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) have visited Brisbane to review preparations for the 2032 Summer Olympics and 2032 Summer Paralympics, highlighting the major construction effort required ahead of the global sporting event.

During their visit to Australia, Paul Gandy, President of the Chartered Institute of Building, and Victoria Hills, the organization’s Chief Executive, assessed the progress of infrastructure planning as the city prepares for the Games.

With approximately 76 months remaining before the opening ceremony, construction experts emphasize the importance of efficient project delivery and high professional standards across the sector.

Major consortium selected for Olympic infrastructure delivery

A key milestone in the Olympic preparations was reached in December, when a consortium led by Laing O’Rourke and AECOM was appointed as the delivery partner for the A$7.1 billion Games infrastructure program.

The consortium will oversee planning and delivery of major venues, transport upgrades and supporting infrastructure required for the Olympic and Paralympic events.

The large-scale construction program is expected to include stadiums, athlete facilities, transport improvements and urban development projects designed to support both the Games and long-term city growth.

CIOB highlights role in construction professionalism

During the visit, CIOB leaders emphasized the institute’s ongoing role in promoting professionalism, skills development and high standards in the construction industry, particularly as Australia undertakes major infrastructure projects linked to the Olympics.

The organization has a significant presence in Australia and works closely with construction professionals to improve project management practices, safety standards and workforce development.

Industry experts say that maintaining strong professional standards will be critical to delivering complex projects within tight timelines before the 2032 event.

Brisbane accelerates Olympic preparations

As the countdown continues toward 2032, Brisbane is entering a crucial planning and construction phase.

City authorities, construction companies and international consultants are working together to ensure that the necessary venues and infrastructure are completed and tested well before the Games begin.

The Brisbane 2032 Olympics construction program is expected to be one of the largest infrastructure initiatives in Australia in the coming decade, creating new opportunities for the construction sector while transforming the city’s long-term urban landscape.
