Egis Philippines Water Centre Tackles Water Issues

Manila, Philippines – Egis has launched a new water-focused engineering hub in the Philippines aimed at tackling growing water management challenges driven by climate change and rapid urbanisation.

The new facility, named the Egis Production Centre Philippines (EPCP), will focus on developing solutions for flood control, drainage systems and urban water treatment. The centre initially employs around 20 specialists trained in water engineering disciplines, including hydraulic modelling, flood risk mitigation and water infrastructure planning.

Supporting global and regional water projects

The Egis Philippines Water Centre will contribute to both rural and urban water initiatives worldwide. Its work will include projects such as flood management and irrigation systems in rural regions, as well as urban water treatment plants and distribution networks.

Among the centre’s first assignments is a 2D hydraulic modelling study covering approximately 600 kilometres of the Danube River, aimed at assessing navigability and water flow dynamics.

The EPCP team is also involved in preparing a water management plan for the Al-Ula Sharaan development project in Saudi Arabia and supporting the preliminary design of the “Salinity Barrier” project in Sri Lanka, which involves dam and dike infrastructure to manage saltwater intrusion.

Strengthening climate resilience and infrastructure expertise

The new centre builds on Egis’ recent involvement in the Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility, an integrated flood risk management programme that engaged more than 150 engineers to address climate-related infrastructure challenges.

According to Xavier Lazennec, Director for Water, Environment and Energy Transition at Egis, the centre will strengthen the company’s ability to respond to growing environmental pressures.

“Enhancing our production capabilities allows us to provide tailored water management solutions that are essential as we confront increasing climatic challenges,” Lazennec said.

Romain Rasse, Director of Egis’ Water Production Centres, added that the focus will be on delivering practical and scalable solutions aligned with local and global water management needs.

Expanding Egis’ presence in the Philippines

The launch of the Egis Philippines Water Centre comes less than a year after the company opened another office in the country focused on public-private partnerships, operations and maintenance, and infrastructure projects across sectors such as rail, airports, roads and energy.

With increasing risks from flooding, extreme weather events and water scarcity, the new production centre is expected to play a key role in supporting resilient water infrastructure projects both in Asia and internationally.
