Amazon Louisiana Data Centre Investment Will Boost Jobs

Amazon has announced plans to invest $12 billion in building large data centre campuses in Bossier and Caddo parishes in Louisiana, strengthening its artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing infrastructure.

The facilities will be constructed by STACK Infrastructure, a specialist in data centre development. The project is expected to create up to 1,500 construction jobs during the building phase.

Once operational, the data centres will employ around 540 people directly, while also supporting approximately 1,710 additional ongoing jobs across technical and operational roles such as electricians, HVAC technicians, project engineers and operations managers.

As part of the development, Amazon also plans to invest $400 million in public water infrastructure in the region. The company said the facilities will use surplus water resources, while advanced cooling strategies will reduce overall energy consumption.

According to Amazon, the data centres will rely on natural air cooling for around 87% of the year, limiting the need for water-based cooling systems. This approach is expected to reduce electricity demand by 25–35%, improving operational efficiency.

Construction is scheduled to begin immediately and will be completed in phases over the coming years.

Amazon already maintains a significant presence in Louisiana. The company currently operates four fulfilment and sortation centres and seven delivery stations in the state and has invested $4.7 billion between 2010 and 2024.

Commenting on the announcement, Justyn Dixon, economic development director at the North Louisiana Economic Development Partnership, said the investment represents a major milestone for the region. He noted that Amazon’s expansion, alongside STACK Infrastructure, reinforces northwest Louisiana’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and technology.

The new campuses are expected to play a key role in supporting Amazon’s expanding AI and cloud computing services, while also contributing to long-term job creation and economic development in Louisiana.
